Agri Golu 2025
The Institute of Agriculture and Research Technology (IART), NMV University, organized Agri Golu 2025 from 24 to 30th September 2025 to celebrate the rich connection between agriculture, culture, and education. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. K. R. Sundaravaradarajan, Vice Chancellor, NMV University, who highlighted the importance of preserving agricultural traditions while promoting scientific awareness among students.
Day 1 – Department of Agronomy (24.09.2025)
The first day was organized by the Department of Agronomy. Ms. K. Kanisha (II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) presented on Desertification and discussed its causes, impacts and preventive measures. Ms. C. Akshaya (II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) explained the concept of Shifting Cultivation and its traditional significance. Ms. G. Shruthi (II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) delivered a presentation on Rainwater Harvesting, emphasizing its importance in water conservation and sustainable agriculture.
Day 2 – Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology (25.09.2025)
The second day was organized by the Departments of Entomology and Plant Pathology. Ms. S. Mahalakshmi (II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) presented on the Preservation of Plant Disease Specimens, explaining wet and dry preservation methods. Mr. K. Bose (III B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) discussed historical famines, mushroom cultivation, biofertilizers and emphasized the importance of Integrated Disease Management (IDM) for sustainable crop protection.
Day 3 – Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Biochemistry (26.09.2025)
The third day was conducted by the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Biochemistry. Students showcased topics related to soil health, soil testing, soil texture and nutrient management. Ms. S. Abirami (II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) explained different land ecosystems including barren land, garden land and forest land. Ms. P. Kaviyadharshini (II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) presented on Problematic Soils and their management practices. Ms. E. Yamuna (III B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) explained the functioning and significance of Hydroelectric Power Plants in sustainable energy production.
Day 4 – Departments of Agricultural Economics, Extension Education and Statistics (27.09.2025)
The fourth day was organized by the Departments of Agricultural Economics, Extension Education, and Statistics. The sessions focused on agricultural economics, extension communication, ICT applications and statistical tools in agriculture. Ms. C. Akshaya (II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) presented on Leaflets as an effective communication tool. Ms. P. Kaviyadharshini (II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) explained the importance of Economic Trees and their commercial value. Ms. G. Shruthi (II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) delivered a presentation on Geographical Indications (GI) and their significance in protecting regional agricultural products.
Day 5 – Departments of Horticulture, Genetics and Plant Breeding, and Agricultural Engineering (29.09.2025)
The fifth day featured exhibits and models prepared by students from the Departments of Horticulture, Genetics and Plant Breeding, and Agricultural Engineering. Mr. K. Jagadeeshwaran (II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture) presented models of a Check Dam, Tractor, and Country Plough, explaining their role in water conservation and farm mechanization. Mr. R. Raj Kumar (II Year) demonstrated the importance of Contour Bunds in soil and water conservation. Mr. P. Loganathan (II Year) exhibited models of a Five-Tine Cultivator and Disc Plough, highlighting their applications in tillage operations. Mr. R. Sasitharan (III Year) presented a model of a Farm Pond, emphasizing its role in rainwater harvesting and sustainable water management.
The week-long Agri Golu celebration successfully created awareness among students regarding sustainable agriculture, traditional farming practices, natural resource conservation and technological advancements in agriculture while strengthening the connection between culture and agricultural education.
