Dr. N. M. Veeraiyan is a trailblazer and a visionary in the field of education. He hails from a small village called Nalligoundanoor in Erode district, Tamil Nadu.

He is a visionary who has lived by his dreams, an inspiration to thousands of young professionals to dare to chase their dreams. An alumnus of Madras Medical College 1970, he never stopped chasing his dreams though he had no immediate means to realise them. As a young professional, he felt deeply the need for quality professional education and health care for the community.

This burning need for quality health care inspired him to venture to start the first multi specialty hospital at Erode in 1977. The success of the hospital further emboldened his vision of quality professional education, as he ventured to Chennai and started the dental College in 1988. Within a few years, Saveetha became synonymous with high quality dental care and training. After stamping an indelible mark on the dental education in the country, he ventured to bring changes in the entire professional education in the country. Thus came the origin of Saveetha University in 2005 which gave him the freedom to bring in innovation, best practices and create new benchmarks in professional education. The success story of innovation and entrepreneurial education continued with Engineering, Law, Management, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Medicine.

Dr. Veeraiyan is also a passionate scholar of the Tamil language. He received accolades from the Government of Tamil Nadu for his book “Vaai Pal Maruthuvam”. He was also awarded the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, the “Edupreneur Award” by the Times of India and the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Honourable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee.
