Drone Technology 2025

The Department of Agricultural Extension Education, Institute of Agriculture and Research Technology (IART), NMV University, organized a one-day training programme on “Drone Tech for Farm Students” on 08 July 2025 at the university campus, Muthuramalingapuram, Aruppukottai. The programme aimed to create awareness and provide practical exposure to students on the application of drone technology in modern agriculture and precision farming.

The programme commenced with a Welcome Address delivered by Dr. T. Ramsundar, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Extension Education, who welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, and students and highlighted the importance of emerging technologies in agricultural development.

The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. K. R. Sundaravaradarajan, Vice Chancellor, NMV University, who emphasized the importance of integrating advanced technologies into agriculture and encouraged students to adapt to scientific innovations that can transform the farming sector. His inspiring message motivated students to embrace technological advancements and develop skills relevant to future agriculture.

The technical session was led by Mr. Shyam Sundar, Founder, SS Agro Care, Madurai, who provided an informative introduction to drone technology, explaining the components, operation and applications of drones in agriculture. He also conducted a live demonstration showcasing drone operation for agricultural purposes such as crop monitoring, input application, and precision farming practices.

A major highlight of the programme was the hands-on drone demonstration conducted in the university farm field, where students and faculty members were given the opportunity to operate drones under expert supervision. This practical exposure generated great enthusiasm among participants and strengthened their confidence in handling emerging agricultural technologies.

The event also featured paper presentations by undergraduate and postgraduate students, highlighting the role of drone technology in precision agriculture, resource management, and sustainable farming practices.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. A. S. Archana, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Extension Education and Programme Coordinator, whose dedicated efforts contributed significantly to the successful organization of the event. Special appreciation was also extended to Ms. P. Sherin Neya, II M.Sc. (Agriculture), for her valuable support as the Co-organizer of the programme.

The training programme successfully bridged the gap between technology and agriculture by providing students with practical learning experiences and inspiring them to explore innovative solutions for future farming challenges.
