The Institute of Agriculture and Research Technology (IART), NMV University, celebrated National Mushroom Day on 15 October 2025 with the objective of creating awareness about the nutritional, medicinal and economic importance of mushrooms. Celebrated under the theme “Mushroom Marvels”, the programme highlighted the role of mushrooms in sustainable agriculture, food security, healthy diets and agricultural entrepreneurship.
The event was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Dr. K. R. Sundaravaradarajan, Vice Chancellor, NMV University, whose continuous support and leadership encourage innovation and skill development among students. The programme was coordinated by Ms. R. Yuva Rani, Assistant Professor, Department of Plant Pathology.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. Ganapathi Shruthi, II Year Undergraduate student, who emphasized the growing importance of mushrooms in nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and rural entrepreneurship. An informative presentation on mushroom cultivation techniques and the nutritional and medicinal value of mushrooms was delivered by Ms. S. Noothana Sri, III Year Undergraduate student, who explained various mushroom types, cultivation practices and their significance as a rich source of proteins, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
To enhance student engagement, a Mushroom Puzzle Game was organized, encouraging participants to learn about mushroom diversity through interactive activities and teamwork. Winners were recognized and appreciated for their enthusiastic participation and performance.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. C. Akshaya, II B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, expressing gratitude to all participants, faculty members, and organizers. The event was effectively compered by Ms. M. Angeline Jency, III B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, ensuring the smooth conduct of the programme. The celebration concluded with the National Anthem, leaving participants inspired to promote mushroom cultivation, nutrition, and sustainable agricultural practices.
