The Institute of Agriculture and Research Technology (IART), NMV University, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 on 05 June 2025 with a strong commitment towards environmental sustainability and student engagement. The programme was organized under the global theme “Greenverse: Building a Sustainable Future, One Choice at a Time”, emphasizing the importance of individual and collective actions in creating a greener and more sustainable future.

The event was organized by Mrs. C. Mohanapriya, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Economics, under the valuable guidance of Dr. K. R. Sundaravaradarajan, Vice Chancellor, NMV University, whose vision for a “Green and Smart Campus” continues to inspire students and faculty members to adopt environmentally responsible practices.

The programme commenced with a Welcome Address delivered by Mr. V. Vikanasan, II M.Sc. (Ag.) Scholar, Department of Agricultural Economics, who highlighted the importance of youth participation in environmental conservation and sustainable agricultural practices.

The Special Address was delivered by Mr. K. Sathish, III B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture student, who provided an informative overview of the history and significance of World Environment Day. He also emphasized the growing threat of plastic pollution and encouraged students to adopt the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle while becoming agents of change within their communities.

One of the major highlights of the celebration was the Neem Sapling Plantation Drive, in which faculty members and students actively participated. The initiative symbolized the institution’s long-term commitment to environmental stewardship and contributed towards strengthening the university’s green campus initiatives.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. S. Kathirvel, I M.Sc. (Ag.) Scholar, Department of Agricultural Economics, who expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, faculty members, organizing committee and students for their enthusiastic participation and support. The event concluded with the National Anthem, leaving participants inspired to make environmentally responsible choices and contribute towards a sustainable future.

World Environment Day 2025 at NMV University successfully reinforced the importance of environmental responsibility and motivated the academic community to take meaningful actions towards building a greener and healthier planet — one choice at a time.
