World Population Day 2025
The Institute of Agriculture and Research Technology (IART), NMV University, observed World Population Day on 11 July 2025 with the objective of creating awareness about population trends and their implications for national development, public health and socio-economic sustainability. The programme was organized under the esteemed guidance and presence of Dr. K. R. Sundaravaradarajan, Vice Chancellor, NMV University, to sensitize students and participants on the importance of planned population management and informed decision-making.
The programme witnessed the active participation of officials from the Health Department of Tamil Nadu, who delivered informative sessions on contemporary population issues and demographic challenges faced by the country. The resource persons emphasized the importance of population management in ensuring sustainable development, improved quality of life and efficient utilization of natural and human resources.
During the session, participants were educated on the impact of unplanned population growth on healthcare, education, employment opportunities, housing and other essential public services. The speakers highlighted how population planning contributes to social welfare, economic growth, and national productivity.
The officials also discussed the importance of maintaining demographic balance in the context of declining fertility rates, ageing populations, and future workforce requirements. Various Government of India population policies, family welfare schemes and healthcare initiatives were explained to help participants understand the scientific and responsible approaches to population management.
An interactive discussion session encouraged participants to view population management as a balanced and dynamic process rather than a one-sided approach. The programme emphasized the importance of awareness, education, access to healthcare services, and public participation in shaping sustainable population trends. Participants also took a pledge to support initiatives aimed at improving public health and sustainable development.
The programme concluded with a collective understanding that effective population planning, supported by institutional guidance and community participation, is essential for achieving inclusive growth and long-term sustainable development. The event successfully created awareness among students regarding demographic challenges and the role of responsible citizenship in nation building.
