World Pulses Day 2026

Promoting the importance of pulses in nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and food security, World Pulses Day was observed on 10 February 2026 at the Institute of Agriculture and Research Technology (IART), NMV University, Aruppukottai.

The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the role of pulses in improving soil fertility, supporting balanced diets, and strengthening climate-resilient farming systems. The event commenced with Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by educational activities that highlighted the diversity, cultivation practices, and nutritional significance of pulses across different states of India through informative student-prepared banners.

As part of the programme, Mr. R. Sasidharan, III Year Undergraduate Student, delivered an informative presentation on government schemes and subsidies related to pulse cultivation, emphasizing their importance in promoting sustainable agricultural development and supporting farmers.

A special address was delivered by Dr. S. Swathi, who explained the significance of World Pulses Day, the nutritional value of pulses, and their contribution to environmental sustainability and global food security.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members and concluded with the National Anthem, reinforcing the importance of pulses in achieving sustainable agriculture and healthier communities.
