World Wetland Day 2026
The Institute of Agriculture and Research Technology (IART), NMV University, observed World Wetlands Day on 02 February 2026 with the objective of creating awareness among students on the ecological importance of wetlands and the need for their conservation.
The programme was conducted in the wetland field area located within the university campus under the guidance of Dr. R. Rajalakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Agronomy, who delivered an informative session on the role of wetlands in water conservation, biodiversity protection, and agricultural sustainability. She also emphasized the close relationship between wetlands and paddy cultivation and highlighted the importance of preserving wetland ecosystems for future generations.
As part of the observance, students actively participated in paddy seed sowing activities in the wetland field, gaining practical exposure to the importance of wetlands in agriculture and traditional farming systems. A student also presented a poem on wetland conservation, creatively emphasizing the value of wetlands for environmental balance and human well-being.
The programme concluded with enhanced awareness among students regarding the significance of wetlands in ecological sustainability and natural resource conservation, inspiring them to actively contribute towards protecting the environment for future generations.
